- Human Resources Business Partner
Description
HSAA is seeking a dynamic and well-rounded Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support a broad range of HR functions aligned with our strategic and operational objectives. This is a full-time, permanent position and will work out of the Edmonton office reporting to the Director of Human Resources
This out-of-scope role requires an experienced HR generalist who will act as a trusted consultant to management and staff, helping to foster a positive workplace culture and promote staff engagement and development.
Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
Recruitment:
- Lead full-cycle recruitment, including creating job postings, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and onboarding new hires.
- Collaborate with department managers to understand staffing needs and provide recommendations on sourcing strategies and candidate selection.
- Develop and maintain a talent pool of qualified candidates through various channels, including social media, job boards, and networking events.
Employee and Labour Relations:
- Provide coaching and strategic advice on complex employee and labour relations matters related to collective agreement interpretation, policies, employment legislation, performance, behaviour, and workplace conduct.
- Manage and guide comprehensive workplace investigations and lead the grievance process through to arbitration when required.
Disability Management:
- Oversee day-to-day management and administration of disability management programs, including short-term disability, long-term disability, and WCB claims.
- Communicate with key stakeholders to adjudicate claims and develop return-to-work plans.
- Troubleshoot and escalate issues to vendors as necessary.
Job Classification:
- Conduct job classification assessments by developing, reviewing, and auditing positions.
- Provide expert classification recommendations and advice by interpreting technical information and applying established methodologies, communicating clearly and persuasively to stakeholders.
Pay & Benefits:
- Provide guidance and day-to-day support for employee benefits and payroll-related inquiries.
- Liaise with vendors and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing and benefits administration.
- Assist with audits, policy interpretation, and resolve issues related to compensation, group benefits, and pension plans.

You have a proven track record of moving initiatives forward, delivering tangible results, and adapting to shifting priorities. With sound judgment and experience, you make effective recommendations and support the resolution of sensitive HR matters while maintaining confidentiality. You possess in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and collective agreements, and excel at building strong relationships with union representatives, management, peers, and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will also have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in employee relations and human resources. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Proven experience providing employee relations and HR support within a unionized environment.
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities, balance workload, and meet critical deadlines.
- Creative thinker and problem solver who works effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex concepts into clear, accessible language for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) at an intermediate to advanced level.
