JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Human Resources Manager and working closely with plant management, the Human Resources Generalist will primarily be responsible for developing initiatives that foster productive relations between Management and Unions, Union and Non-Union employees, and providing advice and guidance to managers and supervisors on labour relations. The individual will work closely with the H.R Manager and the VP- Human Resources on H.R projects related to transformation and implementation of Organization development initiatives.
This individual is accountable for managing the grievance process, as well as assisting with the implementation of key human resources projects. Other responsibilities include ensuring plant-wide compliance with key H.R policies, labor relation guidelines, legislative requirements and all Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation policies and procedures to ensure optimal productivity and high employee engagement.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work on H.R related projects.
Advise and lead Plant Management in all matters related to labour relations.
Coordinate and/or conduct investigations and recommend appropriate corrective action.
Contribute to the development and execution of FFMC’s strategic Human Resources plan.
Coordinate, plan, and support the Collective Bargaining process.
Monitor and advise on the administration and interpretation of Collective Agreements and Human Resources policies on behalf of FFMC.
Respond to all issues and inquiries relating to Plant labour and employee relations within acceptable time frames.
Participate in and encourage creative conflict resolution strategies.
Mediate employee disputes and the grievances processes as necessary in accordance with both legislative requirements and FFMC policies.
Support Plant Management’s development and succession planning.
Contribute to the design and facilitate the implementation of training and development programs for all plant staff.
Keep job descriptions current.
Ensure effective exit interviews and provide management with analysis and recommendations.
Maintain positive working relationships with employees and the management team.
Maintains and monitors the Attendance Management Program up to and including providing discipline.
Design and assist in the implementation of new and existing policies and procedures pertaining to all aspects of the human resources function.
Provides guidance with respect to the interpretation and application of the Collective Bargaining Agreements and the Corporation’s policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with Federal legislation and regulations.
Provide general information and assistance internally and externally over the phone, electronically, and in person.
Provide research as requested.
Lead the hourly recruitment and selection process for both internal and external job postings, including posting jobs, screening, interviewing, orientation, and coordinating all new hire administration including locker assignments, issuing equipment etc.
Monitor employee hours for milestones including raises and benefits eligibility; processing said changes
Administer layoffs and recalls as per CBA requirements
Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Ability to handle multiple projects.
Advanced Excel skills
Effective communication skills both oral and written with sensitivity to employee ESL and literacy issues.
Solid knowledge of employment related legislation and regulations.
Administrative, planning and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Project, Outlook).
Proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Discretion when working with confidential information.
Ability to work under pressure and maintain calm while demonstrating a sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
Uses discretion, good judgement, initiative to work independently to complete day-to-day responsibilities and to complete complex tasks.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
CPHR Designation or working towards is a definite asset.
Human Resources Diploma/Certificate/Degree
3 – 5 years’ related experience in a unionized environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

UKG Time & Attendance Software
Payworks Payroll Software
Experience with some Performance Management software
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Works in a mostly clean office environment. The environment could smell as FFMC processes fish.
Works on a computer for extended periods of time
Occasional exposure to the plant environment
Flexibility to work early or late hours is a requirement of the job. It is needed to accommodate employees that shift times outside of traditional working hours.
