Job Overview:
The Senior Human Capital Manager plans and manages human resource activities for Canadian offices, Toronto, Montreal and Mississauga, and remote colleagues. Provides frontline HR support to employees and management and regional support to the HC Operations team as needed. Advises leadership on solutions to address business needs. Assists with initiatives to help build and maintain a strong office community in an inclusive and positive office environment. Activities may include program administration, policy and procedure development and implementation, payroll and benefits oversight/administration/assistance, orientation, employee system transactions, employee engagement, and employee relations.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in our Toronto office. There is no option to be fully remote.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy and Program Management
- Provide guidance and answer questions on policy interpretation.
- Ensure uniform and equitable application of policies and procedures.
- Administer Talent Management programs, such as leaves, in country transfers, and work schedules; generate, process and distribute appropriate documentation.
Pre-Hire, Orientation, Terminations
- Ensure new hires have first day logistics and details, including required paperwork, such as authorized work documentation.
- Organize and conduct Day 1 orientation (schedule presenters, order lunch, reserve meeting rooms).
- Coordinate with departments to address specific on boarding requirements.
- Deliver presentations that meet high quality standards.
- Process new hire paperwork.
- Troubleshoot operational issues (such as expenses and IT).
- Provide assistance to resolve payroll and benefit issues and answer general questions.
- Conduct exit interviews for departing employees, provide exit logistics and process required documents.
Employee Engagement
- Partner with Office leadership to help build and maintain a strong community in an inclusive and positive office environment in all locations covered.
- Pro-actively support firm-wide efforts to help maintain a highly engaged workforce.
- Contribute to and support development of programs designed to create strong commitment and participation in office events and activities.
- Serve as a role model to all employees, exemplifying Oliver Wyman Values.
Employee Relations
- Create a fair and inclusive environment based on trust and mutual respect.
- Build credibility through encouraging open dialogue and maintaining confidentiality.
- Provide advice and counsel to managers and leaders regarding employment law, policy and employee issues.
- Anticipate workplace issues when possible, solving before they escalate.
- In conjunction with the Colleague Relations team, support employee investigations when required. Ensure enforcement of disciplinary procedures.
- Ensure involuntary termination matters are handled in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Work with external and internal counsel on calculating severance estimates.
Other HC Activities
- Collaborate/coordinate with MMC on requirements to promote compliance, support internal and external audits, and initiatives such as Region transformation, employee handbook.
- Manage required documentation in accordance with legal and company requirements, ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Enter Employee transactions and draft related documents for new hires, transfers, manager changes, pay changes, status/role changes and terminations. Ensure and request required approvals are obtained.
- Write and distribute employee communications as required.
- Other duties as assigned, including projects related to the business or the Regional HC Operations team.
Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of human resources experience required, preferably in a professional services environment.
- Four years leadership experience - leading projects and/or teams, facilitating discussions, coaching clients, mentoring more junior HR colleagues, and advocating for policy or other initiatives.
- HR Certification is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Maintains knowledge of trends and changes in Human Resources legislation, and conveys local, provincial, and federal laws where appropriate
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Experience with Workday is a plus
- Mergers and acquisitions experience preferred
- Current knowledge of employment law and practices
Skills and Attributes:

- Experience balancing ever-changing work demands in a challenging environment with numerous stakeholders to satisfy
- Proven experience in a role requiring a high degree of organizational skill, accuracy, access to confidential information and a strong sense of urgency
