Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is seeking a highly motivated attorney to join the Human Trafficking Division as Assistant Attorney General (AAG). The Human Trafficking Division is a team of statewide prosecutors, partnered with the Massachusetts State Police, investigators, and victim witness advocates, charged with investigating and prosecuting crimes related to sex trafficking and labor trafficking within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. These cases often involve challenging and complex issues, as well as coordination with local and federal law enforcement and victim service providers. Additionally, the Human Trafficking Division co-leads the Commonwealth’s Anti-Trafficking (CAT) Task Force. The Commonwealth’s Anti-Trafficking Task Force is a multi-disciplinary task force that assembles partners across sectors to comprehensively address all forms of human trafficking in the Commonwealth. The Human Trafficking Division also coordinates statewide efforts related to human trafficking policy formation, training, and education.
Primary Duties:
This Assistant Attorney General position involves the investigation and prosecution of sex trafficking and labor trafficking criminal cases across all jurisdictions of Massachusetts, focusing on cases arising out of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties. Investigations involve working within a multi-disciplinary team, including victim witness advocates, law enforcement officers, financial investigators, as well as connecting with service providers, to approach potential human trafficking scenarios. The approach may involve victim and witness interviews, assessment of financial and documentary evidence and search warrants. Other responsibilities include participation in a multi-agency task force dedicated to the sharing of intelligence regarding human trafficking cases and pursuing forfeiture actions against offenders where applicable.
The Assistant Attorney General will also work within a multidisciplinary team to evaluate complaints and initiate investigations of human trafficking; formulate investigative strategies; prepare search warrants; analyze documents; interview witnesses; conduct document and witness-intensive grand jury investigations; prepare immunity and/or cooperation agreements, as needed; make charging, venue, and plea-bargaining recommendations; and prosecute complex criminal cases in superior courts. Participation in training and outreach efforts, particularly in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties may be required.
Position Requirements:
- Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar.
- At least five (5) years of litigation experience including experience as a criminal prosecutor or defense attorney preferred.
- Jury trial and grand jury experience are required.
- Knowledge of, or ability to gain understanding of, the Massachusetts human trafficking statutes and the comprehensive legislation that address the exploitation of children and adults.
- Experience investigating and prosecuting human trafficking, sexual assault, and/or domestic violence cases is preferred.
- Exceptional analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct complex investigations and prosecutions and carry a significant caseload.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team, including with law enforcement and investigators, victim support personnel and anti-trafficking stakeholders.
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with the public.
- Must have access to reliable transportation, as travel is necessary to various courts and offices throughout the Commonwealth.

Location: The Assistant Attorney General hired for this position will work out of the AGO’s Springfield Regional Office. Our current hybrid model includes some telework days for most positions.
Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt.
Salary: $87,500 - $130,595, commensurate with JD year.
